Amazon launched the first production satellites for its Kuiper broadband network, providing a rare glimpse of the satellites with a video posted on social media. Unlike SpaceX and OneWeb, which have shared extensive information about their satellite systems, Amazon has been secretive about its satellites since unveiling Project Kuiper in 2019. The company plans to deploy a total of 3,232 Kuiper satellites using multiple rocket launches in the coming years.
Amazon is set to launch its first batch of Kuiper internet satellites on April 9, 2025, from Cape Canaveral, marking a crucial step for its broadband service initiative. The company aims to provide internet access via a constellation of over 3,000 satellites, competing with other providers like Starlink. To comply with FCC regulations, Amazon must have 1,618 satellites in orbit by July 2026.
