The Free Software Foundation (FSF) has launched the LibrePhone initiative, aiming to create the first entirely free software smartphone by eliminating proprietary components. However, the challenge lies in the lack of vendor documentation and the dependence on closed-source firmware, which has historically hindered similar projects. Despite these obstacles, the FSF is committed to pursuing this long-term goal of software freedom in mobile devices.
