Competing results from the UK's Joint European Torus (JET) reactor have shown even longer containment times, highlighting the ongoing rivalry between different fusion technologies. While advancements are promising, both magnetic confinement and inertial confinement methods face considerable engineering challenges before becoming viable for electricity generation.
