The development of autonomous surgical robots, such as the Smart Tissue Autonomous Robot (STAR), aims to enhance surgical precision and reduce complications in procedures like colon cancer surgery. With advancements in imaging and artificial intelligence, these robots are designed to perform key tasks independently while being supervised by human surgeons, potentially addressing the growing shortage of qualified surgeons. Although fully autonomous surgeries are not yet commonplace, innovations are paving the way for their future integration into operating rooms.
