Google has released Veo 3.1 Lite, a budget-friendly video generation model that allows developers to create high-volume applications at over 50% less cost than Veo 3.1 Fast, while maintaining the same speed. The model supports Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video features, and is accessible through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio.
- Veo 3.1 Lite costs over 50% less than Veo 3.1 Fast while matching its speed
- Supports Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video in 16:9 or 9:16 up to 1080p, with 4, 6, or 8 second durations priced by length
- Google is also cutting prices on Veo 3.1 Fast alongside this launch
- Available now via Gemini API and Google AI Studio for paid tier users
Apple is set to enhance Siri with Gemini, allowing for independent finetuning and improved emotional support responses. The partnership with Google will ensure that user data remains private, and the Gemini-powered Siri aims to provide more accurate answers and better handle complex queries. A gradual rollout of these features is expected, with some launching this spring.
- Apple can independently fine-tune Gemini rather than using Google's stock model, keeping responses on-brand and keeping user data off Google's servers via on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute.
- The upgraded Siri will give direct answers instead of link lists, handle emotionally sensitive conversations with more nuance, and merge command-based and AI-based query processing to better infer ambiguous user intent.
- Rollout is staggered: some features arrive as soon as this spring, while more advanced capabilities like conversation memory and calendar-based proactive suggestions are expected to debut at WWDC in June.
