Advances in AI are paving the way for the creation of generative ghosts—custom AI agents that can interact with loved ones after a person's death by generating novel content. This position paper explores the design, practical, and ethical implications of such agents, proposing a research agenda for AI and HCI communities to ensure safe and beneficial interactions with AI afterlives.
