Google is reaffirming its commitment to keeping its AI platform, Gemini, free of advertisements for the foreseeable future. In an interview at the World Economic Forum, Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, emphasized that the company has no current plans to introduce ads into Gemini. This statement echoes a previous declaration from December 2025 by Dan Taylor, Google’s VP of Global Ads, who also confirmed that there are no ads in the Gemini app and no plans to change that.
Hassabis remarked on ChatGPT’s decision to include ads, suggesting that their early move indicates a need for revenue. His comments serve a dual purpose: they reinforce confidence in Google’s financial stability to support Gemini's operation and subtly imply that ads could be a future consideration. However, he stressed the importance of maintaining a pure user experience, arguing that mixing advertising with a personal assistant could compromise trust and quality in recommendations.
