On December 4, 2025, Google introduced an experimental feature in the Search Console Performance report called AI-powered configuration. This new tool helps users analyze organic search traffic more efficiently by allowing them to input requests in natural language. Instead of manually setting filters and comparisons, users can simply describe the analysis they want, and the AI will adjust the report accordingly.
The feature focuses on three main areas: applying filters, configuring comparisons, and selecting metrics. Users can filter data by various criteria, such as query, page, country, or device. They can also set up complex comparisons, like analyzing traffic for specific pages over different time periods. Furthermore, users can choose from four metrics—Clicks, Impressions, Average CTR, and Average Position—based on their specific questions.
While the AI-powered configuration aims to simplify the reporting process, it comes with limitations. Currently, it only supports the Performance report and is not available for Discover or News reports. There are potential accuracy issues, as the AI may misinterpret requests. Users need to double-check the suggested filters to ensure they align with their intentions. Also, the feature cannot perform tasks like sorting data or exporting reports.
Google is rolling this feature out to a limited number of websites, with plans for gradual expansion. They encourage user feedback to improve the functionality. Users can submit feedback through built-in buttons or comment on LinkedIn and within the Google Search Central Community.
