macOS Tahoe 26.2 introduces a feature called Edge Light, designed to enhance video quality in low-light settings. This virtual ring light effect illuminates the user's face by adding a soft glow around the edges of the Mac display. Unlike traditional ring lights, Edge Light uses the Mac's Neural Engine to intelligently detect the user's face and position within the frame, ensuring optimal lighting. The Image Signal Processor fine-tunes the brightness to adapt to the room's lighting conditions. Edge Light automatically adjusts when the Mac detects the cursor nearing the display edges, making it user-friendly. It's compatible with all video conferencing applications, including FaceTime, Zoom, and WebEx. The feature is available on all Apple Silicon Macs, with an automatic activation option for models released in 2024 or later when in dark environments. Edge Light can also be used with external cameras and is supported on the Studio Display connected to an Apple Silicon Mac.
