Gemini has launched a new feature called Personal Intelligence, allowing users to personalize their experience by connecting Google apps like Gmail and Photos with a single tap. Currently in beta for U.S. users, this feature aims to improve the assistant's ability to provide tailored responses by securely linking information from various sources. The setup is designed to be user-friendly, with the option to choose which apps to connect and the ability to turn off the feature at any time.
Personal Intelligence excels in reasoning and retrieving specific details from connected apps. For instance, a user shared how Gemini helped them find the right tire size for their minivan and suggested options based on family road trip data from Google Photos. It also retrieved their license plate number from a photo. Beyond practical tasks, Gemini can provide personalized recommendations for books, shows, and travel, using data from users' past preferences.
Privacy is a key focus. Users have control over their data, and the assistant does not train on personal information directly from Gmail or Photos. Instead, it uses filtered data to improve functionality. Users can also correct the assistant when it misinterprets their preferences. The beta version is rolling out to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, with plans for broader availability in the future. Users can activate the feature in the appโs settings.
