Kali Linux has rolled out version 2025.4, marking its last update for the year. This release features three new hacking tools: bpf-linker for static linking of BPF programs, evil-winrm-py for executing commands on remote Windows systems via WinRM, and hexstrike-ai, which allows AI agents to autonomously run tools. These additions enhance the toolkit available to cybersecurity professionals and ethical hackers.
The desktop environment has seen significant updates across GNOME, KDE Plasma, and Xfce. GNOME 49 introduces a new video player, reorganized tool folders, and keyboard shortcuts for terminal access. Notably, it has dropped X11 support in favor of Wayland. KDE Plasma 6.5 improves window tiling and screenshot functionality, while Xfce gains new color themes for easier customization. The update also includes full VM guest utilities support for VirtualBox, VMware, and QEMU, benefiting users running Kali in virtual environments.
Kali NetHunter also received updates, expanding device support for Android 15 and 16. The NetHunter Terminal has been restored for better compatibility with Magisk, preventing terminal sessions from closing unexpectedly. A preview of Wifipumpkin3, a framework for rogue access point attacks, is now integrated into the NetHunter app, complete with phishing templates for popular platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
For installation, users can upgrade existing setups or download new ISO images. The Kali Live image is now available only via BitTorrent due to its size, and new community mirrors have been added to enhance download options. Instructions for upgrading from previous versions are straightforward, ensuring users can access the latest features efficiently.
