WormGPT 4 and KawaiiGPT are two new dark large language models (LLMs) that have emerged as tools for cybercriminals, lowering the skill barrier for malicious activities. WormGPT 4, a successor to the original WormGPT that was quickly shut down in 2023, is now available for $50 a month or $220 for lifetime access, including source code. It can generate convincing phishing emails and create malware, including ransomware. Palo Alto Networks tested it and confirmed its capabilities in generating complex and dangerous code tailored for cyberattacks. KawaiiGPT, launched in July 2025, is freely accessible on GitHub, making it an even more enticing option for aspiring cybercriminals. Unlike WormGPT 4, KawaiiGPT's open-source nature means anyone can use it without any financial investment. Researchers highlighted its ability to produce social engineering lures, scripts for lateral movement on Linux systems, and data exfiltration tools. With over 500 registered users, many of whom are active weekly, KawaiiGPT's community-driven approach enhances its appeal and accessibility. Palo Alto Networks warned that these models represent a significant shift in digital risk, as they democratize cybercrime tools previously available only to skilled hackers. The unrestricted nature of these LLMs allows virtually anyone with basic prompt creation skills to engage in cybercriminal activities. This shift could lead to a rise in automated cyber threats, as the barriers to entry for malicious actors continue to diminish.
