Stripe has introduced the x402 integration, allowing developers to charge AI agents directly with USDC stablecoin on the Base network. This new feature uses the x402 protocol, which repurposes the HTTP 402 "Payment Required" status code for on-chain payments. Jeff Weinstein, Stripe's product lead, explained that the current financial system isnβt designed for AI agents, which often require microtransactions and immediate transaction finality. Developers can create a PaymentIntent, generating a deposit address for agents to send payments. Transaction status is trackable via API, webhooks, or the Stripe dashboard.
Alongside this launch, CoinGecko has rolled out x402-powered API endpoints. This allows autonomous agents to access price and on-chain data for a flat fee of $0.01 USDC per request, streamlining data retrieval without the need for an account. The integration supports numerous cryptocurrency queries and offers a seamless transaction process that enhances the utility of both platforms. As Stripe's valuation is reportedly set to reach $140 billion, this integration highlights its commitment to evolving payment solutions in the crypto space.
