Neoen Australia has started construction on the Goyder battery in South Australia, a 226 MW, 866 MWh project that will be the world's first to use Tesla's Megablock technology. This new technology combines four Megapack 3 units into a deployable block, allowing for faster installations and a projected cost reduction of up to 40%. The Goyder battery is significant as it will supply power to BHP’s Olympic Dam mining operations, reinforcing Neoen's role in supporting South Australia's ambitious goal of achieving 100% net renewables by 2027. This project is Neoen's third to begin construction in just three months, following expansions at the Western Downs and Muchea battery projects. With Goyder's capacity, Neoen's total contribution to South Australia exceeds 1.3 GW. The company has a strong track record in Australia, being the first to deploy large-scale battery technology at Hornsdale in 2017 and grid-forming inverters, which are vital for integrating renewable energy sources. Neoen's strategic partnerships and projects, including the Hornsdale and Blyth batteries, position it as a leader in the clean energy transition. With planning approval for up to 900 MW at Goyder and potential expansions for associated wind and solar projects, this initiative could help create Australia's largest hybrid energy project.
