Jony Ive, Apple's former design chief, invested years in crafting the interior design for the Apple Car before the project was ultimately scrapped. Although we won't see those designs, the upcoming Ferrari Luce offers a glimpse into what the Apple Car's aesthetic might have been. The cockpit of the Luce, designed by Ive’s consultancy Lovefrom, features a design language reminiscent of Apple's past products, particularly those that emerged after the iPhone 4.
The Ferrari cockpit showcases a meticulous use of materials, with over 40 pieces of Corning Gorilla Glass integrated throughout, including in the shifter surround and gauge cluster. The remaining surfaces are primarily aluminum, available in three anodized colors: gray, dark gray, and rose gold. One notable feature is the key, which has a yellow panel with an E Ink background. When inserted into the center console's magnetized receiver, the yellow dims and transitions to glow through the glass shifter, symbolizing a “transference of life.”
During the presentation, Ive made an offbeat remark about his past collaborations, humorously stating, “Part of my grumpy belligerence now is I’m done working with assholes,” which elicited laughter from the audience. Engadget shared impressive photos of the Ferrari Luce, although the teaser video does not reveal the interior.
