Microsoft is revamping the context menu in Windows 11, addressing long-standing user complaints about its clutter. The new design, called the Split Context Menu, aims to streamline the right-click options by organizing them into context-aware sections. This means the menu will show only relevant actions based on the file type. For example, when right-clicking an image, all related actions will be grouped under "Open with Photos," with additional options available through secondary menus when hovered over. The redesign promises to reduce the overall length of the menu by up to 38%, which should alleviate issues with menu overflow at the bottom of the screen. Alongside this functional update, Microsoft is testing a semi-transparent design known as "Acrylic," intended to give the interface a more modern appearance. While users are eager for these changes, the timeline for when the redesigned context menu will be available remains uncertain.
