AWS has launched a preview of AWS Interconnect - multicloud, aimed at simplifying private connections to other cloud service providers (CSPs). Google Cloud is the first partner in this initiative, with Microsoft Azure expected to join in 2026. The service addresses the growing trend of businesses adopting multicloud strategies, which often come with challenges related to managing complex networks across different platforms. Historically, companies had to rely on a DIY approach to connect workloads across clouds, leading to complications in network management. AWS Interconnect - multicloud shifts this paradigm by providing a purpose-built solution that allows users to establish secure, high-speed connections with dedicated bandwidth. This integration can happen quickly, enabling connections between Amazon VPCs and other cloud environments in a matter of days, rather than the weeks or months typical of previous methods. The preview is currently available in five AWS Regions, and users can enable it through the AWS Management Console. CSPs can also adopt the service easily via a published open API on GitHub. This development represents a significant evolution in how cloud environments interact, focusing on speed and ease of use for customers looking to optimize their multicloud deployments.
