Circle Foundation is a new initiative aimed at improving financial resilience and inclusion both in the U.S. and globally. Launched by Circle, the foundation is backed by the Pledge 1% commitment, which encourages companies to allocate resources for philanthropy. The foundation will support organizations that enhance financial systems, particularly focusing on small businesses in the U.S. and international groups that modernize humanitarian aid infrastructure.
In its first phase, Circle Foundation will tackle the financial challenges faced by small businesses, which represent nearly half of U.S. private-sector employment and contribute over 40% to GDP. The foundation plans to partner with Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) to provide grants and support, emphasizing technology-driven approaches to finance. This effort aims to fill the gaps left by traditional funding sources, ensuring small businesses have the tools and access they need to thrive.
Globally, Circle Foundation intends to address the billions of individuals excluded from effective financial systems. The foundation will collaborate with international organizations to enhance humanitarian finance, ensuring aid can reach more people efficiently and transparently. Beyond financial contributions, Circle Foundation emphasizes the importance of volunteerism, allowing employees to dedicate up to 40 hours annually to community service.
Elisabeth Carpenter, the Chief Strategic Engagement Officer and Founding Chair of Circle Foundation, highlights that the foundation’s work will not only focus on monetary support but also on building lasting infrastructure for economic inclusion. With a governance structure that ensures operational costs are covered by Circle, the foundation aims to direct funds directly toward impactful initiatives.
