Revolut has introduced a feature allowing users to convert fiat currency to stablecoins like USDC and USDT without any fees. For $1, users can exchange it for exactly 1 USDC or 1 USDT within the app. Leonid Bashlykov, head of product for crypto at Revolut, emphasized the typical issues users face, such as small spreads and hidden fees, which often prevent a true 1:1 conversion. This new offering addresses those frustrations head-on, making transactions more straightforward.
The platform also enhances user experience by enabling stablecoin transfers across various blockchain networks and linking balances to Visa and Mastercard for everyday purchases. This means that users can spend their stablecoins as easily as they would with traditional fiat currency. Bashlykov believes that the real advancements in the crypto space will come from simplifying existing processes rather than creating complex decentralized finance (DeFi) products. He pointed out that improvements in on/off-ramps and handling balances across different chains are essential for broader adoption.
