Google is introducing a feature that lets users change their "@gmail.com" email addresses to a different "@gmail.com" address. The original email will remain active as an alias, and users can receive emails at both addresses. This change is gradually rolling out but is not yet live.
If you do, here's more
Google is rolling out a new feature allowing users with "@gmail.com" addresses to change their email address for the first time. Previously, only those using third-party email addresses had this option. The change is detailed on a support page, currently only available in Hindi, and is gradually being implemented across users.
When users change their email address, their old "@gmail.com" address will become an alias, allowing them to receive emails at both addresses. The original email address remains active for sign-ins and will not affect any saved data in the account, such as photos or messages. However, users cannot change or delete their new email address for 12 months after the switch and can only change their "@gmail.com" address up to three times.
Some limitations include the old email address still appearing in some contexts, like Calendar events created prior to the change, and users will still be able to send emails from the old address. Google has not fully detailed the rollout, but users can expect more information soon. Once live, the address change will be accessible through the "My Account" section.
