DIA studio designed a striking identity for the 2025 Nuits Sonores electronic music festival in Lyon, France, characterized by a grainy neon green aesthetic. This annual festival, organized by Arty Farty, seeks out a new design agency each year to create its visual identity. Mitch Paone, partner and creative director at DIA, highlights the transformation of Lyon from a traditional city into a vibrant cultural hub during the festival.
Collaboration was central to DIA's approach, particularly with Brazilian creative technologist André Burnier, who helped develop a generative motion tool for the project. This tool enabled DIA to create high-resolution visuals and fluid motion designs that mimic sound waves, giving the festival’s branding a dynamic, rhythmic quality. The custom typeface MNKY Klaus acts as a stabilizing element amidst the chaos, serving as a visual metronome that ties the design together. The identity extends across various platforms, from the festival’s website to merchandise.
The neon green color became a phenomenon among attendees, who incorporated it into their festival outfits and accessories, turning the design into a communal experience. Mitch noted the fun in watching attendees actively participate in the identity. DIA plans to further engage with creative communities through upcoming projects, including a new cultural platform and an annual series of artist-designed wine bottles.
