Google is enhancing its Chrome browser by integrating its AI, Gemini, more deeply into the user experience. The latest update introduces a feature called Auto Browse, designed to automate repetitive tasks in Chrome. This tool aims to minimize the manual work users face while navigating the web, similar to what OpenAI's Atlas offers. The AI button, which has been present in Chrome for some time, now defaults to a split-screen view, allowing Gemini to operate more effectively alongside the browser window. Users can still choose to pop Gemini into a floating window, but the split-view option provides better visibility and functionality. The chatbot now integrates with various Google services directly within Chrome, including Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Maps, Google Shopping, and Google Flights, streamlining access to these apps without leaving the browser. Another significant update is Gemini's ability to access and edit images directly through the browser. Users can now open images from the web and request edits via the Sidepanel, avoiding the hassle of downloading and re-uploading files. The editing process offers two modes: a slower, high-quality “Pro” model and a quicker standard option, catering to different user needs. These changes make web browsing more efficient and user-friendly, positioning Chrome as a more powerful tool for everyday tasks.
