A recent leak from Weibo reveals that Apple plans to introduce under-display Face ID technology in the iPhone 18 series, expected to launch in fall 2025. Leaker Smart Pikachu confirmed this rumor, highlighting the use of “micro-transparent glass panels” to achieve the new feature. While the leak does not specify which models will adopt this technology, earlier reports suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and a foldable version will likely include under-display Face ID. It's still uncertain if the base iPhone 18 or iPhone Air 2 will receive this upgrade. This shift to under-display Face ID could allow Apple to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, which has been a focal point of design changes in recent iPhone models. The iPhone 18 lineup is expected to initially consist of just three high-end models: the Pro, Pro Max, and foldable variant, with the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 arriving later in early 2027. This staggered release gives Apple more time to finalize materials for the later models. If supply issues arise with the new Face ID technology, the delay might increase the chances of it being included across the entire iPhone 18 lineup.
