Iberia has alerted its customers about a significant data breach linked to a third-party supplier. A hacker claims to have stolen 77 GB of sensitive airline data, including customer details like names, email addresses, and Iberia Club loyalty IDs. The breach did not compromise Iberia accounts or passwords, nor was any financial data involved.
The airline activated its security protocols immediately upon discovering the breach. It has reinforced protections for account changes and increased system monitoring. While Iberia has notified regulators and is working closely with the affected supplier, there’s no evidence of any fraudulent use of the leaked data at this time. Customers are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious communications to Iberia’s call center.
On the darker side, a cybersecurity firm reported that the hacker is attempting to sell the stolen data for $150,000. The data purportedly includes technical materials on A320 and A321 aircraft, maintenance files, and internal documents with signatures and certificates. The hacker claims the data has implications for espionage and has ties to international interests, including potential buyers in China or Russia.
