Google is rolling out new AI-driven shopping features just in time for the holiday season. With its generative AI enhancements, users in the U.S. can ask complex questions about products and receive detailed suggestions, guides, and content tailored to their needs. Google’s “Shopping Graph” gives it an edge in delivering relevant recommendations, but it also introduces sponsored content in these AI Mode experiences, which is still in testing. Users might see different types of ads or none at all during this rollout.
A notable feature called “agentic checkout” allows users to set price alerts for products. Once a product hits the desired price, users can authorize a purchase through Google Pay. Currently, this feature only works with select retailers like Chewy and Wayfair. Meanwhile, Duplex, Google’s AI for making phone calls, is making a comeback, but not in the way it was originally intended. Instead of booking appointments, it will help users check product availability by calling stores on their behalf. Users can specify what they want, and Duplex will report back with information, including local inventory from the Shopping Graph. This feature is also limited to the U.S. and is launching in categories like toys and electronics.
