Meta is rolling out new features for Facebook that allow users to animate their profile pictures using AI technology. Users can transform a still image into a short video clip with options like natural, party hat, confetti, wave, and heart animations. This feature aims to enhance personal expression, with promises of more animation choices added throughout the year. For optimal results, Facebook suggests using a clear photo of a single person facing the camera without any objects. Once animated, users can share these new profile pictures on their Feed and display them on their profiles. In addition to profile pictures, Facebook is introducing a feature called Restyle for Stories and Memories, which modifies the appearance of photos. Users can input a text prompt for desired changes or select from preset styles such as anime or low-poly. The tool also allows adjustments to lighting, colors, and mood, as well as background replacements with various scenes. Meanwhile, text posts are getting animated backgrounds, with users able to choose from options like falling leaves or ocean waves. This change aims to make posts more engaging and festive, with seasonal backgrounds planned for future releases. Despite its massive user base of two billion daily active users, Facebook struggles with cultural relevance compared to Instagram. Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has expressed a desire to return to the platform's original community-focused roots, exemplified by the introduction of a new "friends" tab for a chronological friend-only feed.
