Hubert Bieszczad and Jacek Pudysz have launched Uniwind, a new tool designed to integrate Tailwind CSS into React Native applications. After 3.5 months of development, they claim Uniwind is 2.5 times faster than Nativewind, making it a compelling option for developers looking for efficient cross-platform styling. The tool supports Tailwind 4 syntax and includes a high-performance CSS parser that can handle regular CSS files. This capability allows for innovative styling patterns within React Native. Uniwind simplifies theming with default light and dark modes, alongside options for custom themes. Developers can easily register new themes in the metro plugin and manage them through a global CSS file. The integration of className for styling replaces the traditional style prop, streamlining the development process. Uniwind also features direct mappings for all React Native components, enhancing consistency across platforms. In addition to Uniwind, a beta version of Hero UI Native has been released, which is fully integrated with Uniwind and promises a performance boost of up to 250%. This collaboration indicates a strong future for Uniwind in the React Native ecosystem. The upcoming Pro version will introduce advanced features, including a new C++ engine to reduce re-renders and enhanced animation capabilities. Unistyles 4.0 is also in the pipeline, aiming to improve performance and support for Expo Go.
