Google is enhancing Chrome Autofill to include support for passport numbers, driver’s license details, and vehicle information like license plates and VINs. This feature aims to streamline processes such as renting cars, where users can quickly input their name, driver’s license number, and state. Enabling the “Enhanced autofill” setting allows Chrome to better understand and complete complex forms, improving user experience. On the security side, Google assures users that their data is only stored with permission and is encrypted once saved. However, enabling this feature does mean that the URL and content of the pages where forms are filled out will be shared with Google. Users must confirm before any information is autofilled, providing an extra layer of oversight. To activate this new functionality on desktop, navigate to Settings, then Autofill and passwords, and select Enhanced autofill. The rollout starts immediately and will be available globally in all languages. Google plans to expand support for even more data types in the coming months, enhancing the utility of Chrome Autofill further.
