Budget cuts and layoffs have stabilized, but the pressure on teams remains high, with 88% of respondents reporting significant cybersecurity incidents due to these skill shortages.
The study indicates that nearly all respondents have a pressing need for skills development, especially in AI and cloud security. Roughly 41% identified AI as a critical skill, while 36% pointed to cloud security. AI adoption is on the rise, with 28% of professionals already using AI tools in their operations. The perception of AI as a career enhancer is evident; 73% believe it will lead to more specialized roles, and 72% think it will require strategic thinking. Despite the challenges, job satisfaction among cybersecurity professionals is relatively high, with 68% expressing satisfaction in their current roles.
Many professionals feel overwhelmed, with 48% exhausted from keeping up with emerging threats and technologies. Career development is a significant concern, as 31% prioritize advancement opportunities. While 75% plan to stay with their current employer for the next year, that number drops to 66% over two years. Organizations need to rethink their workforce strategies, focusing on skills development and realistic workload expectations, especially in AI, to retain talent and address the growing demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals.
