Aiven has launched a new Developer tier for its PostgreSQL services, priced at $5 per month. This tier builds on the Free tier by providing more storage—up to 8GB, compared to just 1GB in the Free tier. Unlike the Free tier, services in the Developer tier won’t automatically shut down when inactive, ensuring that databases remain accessible at all times. Basic support is also included, which can be a significant advantage for users working on personal or test projects.
The Developer tier is positioned as a middle ground between the Free and Professional tiers. Users can select a geographical region for their service, but they won't have the option to choose a specific cloud provider or region unless they opt for the Professional plans. For those who need more advanced features, such as greater node options or specific integrations, the Professional tier remains available. Downgrading back to the Free tier is possible if your database fits within the limits, and upgrading to Professional is always an option for growing projects.
This new tier is aimed at developers who require more resources than the Free tier offers but don’t need all the capabilities of the Professional tier. Aiven emphasizes that the Developer tier is not meant for production use but serves well for testing and personal projects. The introduction of this tier reflects Aiven's commitment to providing flexible options for users at various stages of their projects, accommodating both beginners and more experienced developers.
