Amazon EC2 now offers interruptible Capacity Reservations, allowing users to temporarily share unused compute capacity with other workloads while retaining the right to reclaim it for critical tasks. This feature benefits flexible operations like batch processing and data analysis, providing advance notice before any interruptions occur. It's available at no extra cost for all Capacity Reservations customers.
If you do, here's more
Amazon EC2 has introduced interruptible Capacity Reservations to enhance the use of reserved capacity and reduce costs for users. On-Demand Capacity Reservations (ODCRs) allow customers to reserve compute power in specific Availability Zones for any duration. If these reservations aren't in use, they can now be converted into interruptible ODCRs. This feature enables other workloads within the organization to temporarily utilize the reserved capacity while still allowing users to reclaim it for critical tasks.
Workloads that thrive on flexibility, such as batch processing, data analysis, and machine learning training, can take advantage of these interruptible reservations. Reservation owners can reclaim their capacity whenever needed, and those using interruptible ODCRs will be notified before their capacity is terminated, giving them time for a graceful shutdown or to checkpoint their work.
Thereβs no extra charge for these interruptible ODCRs; they are available at no additional cost to all customers with Capacity Reservations. Users can check the regional availability of this feature on the AWS Capabilities by Region website. Support for CloudFormation will be added soon, and more information can be found in the Capacity Reservations user guide.
