Google Photos has rolled out significant updates, introducing several new features powered by its advanced AI model, Nano Banana. Senior Director of Product Management Yael Marzan detailed these enhancements, which aim to simplify and enrich user interactions with the app. A standout addition is the “Help Me Edit” feature, allowing users to request specific edits through text prompts. For example, users can ask the app to alter a photo by removing sunglasses, adjusting facial expressions, or making other adjustments that look seamless. The “Ask Photos” feature, previously available only on Android, is now also on iPhones, which means users can interact with the app using voice commands to search for images or edit photos. This feature will be accessible in over 100 countries and supports 17 languages. Nano Banana’s capabilities extend to transforming still images into short videos or reimagining them in different artistic styles, such as cartoons or classic portraits. Another noteworthy addition is the “AI templates” introduced in the Create with AI section, launching on Android in the U.S. and India. These templates simplify the editing process by providing pre-made prompts for users, helping them create images based on popular themes. Examples include transforming a photo into a high-fashion shoot or crafting a professional headshot. Lastly, a new “Ask” button will facilitate conversations about specific images, allowing users to engage more deeply with the app's features. These updates aim to make Google Photos not just a storage solution but a more interactive and creative tool for users.
