Google is testing ads in its AI Mode searches, placing them at the bottom of results. This change is part of ongoing experiments and doesn’t currently allow users to hide these sponsored results. Organic links are still prioritized above the ads.

Google is testing the integration of ads into its AI Mode search results, a shift from traditional search formats. Ads are appearing at the bottom of the search results page for some users, similar to how they appear in regular Google searches. This update follows an announcement from May about incorporating ads in AI Overview and AI Mode. Google reassures users that these changes do not indicate any new strategies for distributing sponsored ads.
Brodie Clark shared on Twitter that these sponsored cards are now part of AI Mode’s official build, not just limited to experimental features. While ads are being introduced, Google is prioritizing organic link cards, placing them within Gemini’s responses rather than at the top. Previously, organic links were located on the side, but this update changes their positioning.
Although Google recently made it easier to hide sponsored results in traditional searches, that option does not appear to extend to AI Mode, as there’s no “hide” button visible in the source images. The rollout of these changes seems gradual, affecting only a small group of users so far, leaving uncertainty about when it will reach a wider audience.
