Google has launched a new AI Inbox feature for Gmail, aimed at organizing tasks and important updates for users. It includes two main sections: “Suggested to-dos” and “Topics to catch up on.” The first section highlights priority emails that require action, like reminders for bills or appointments. The second section categorizes updates, such as order statuses or financial statements. Blake Barnes, Google’s VP of Product, emphasizes this feature is a way to streamline the email experience without replacing the traditional inbox.
In addition to the AI Inbox, Gmail introduces AI Overviews in search, allowing users to ask natural language questions for quick answers. For instance, you can inquire about a plumber's quote from last year, and the AI will pull relevant information from your emails. This feature is being rolled out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. The new Proofread tool aims to enhance writing quality by providing suggestions for clarity and structure, similar to services like Grammarly. It highlights issues such as word choice and sentence complexity.
While these features are initially available to select users, Google is expanding access to “Help Me Write,” AI Overviews for threaded emails, and “Suggested Replies” for all users. Help Me Write assists in composing emails based on prompts, while AI Overviews summarize lengthy email threads, and Suggested Replies offer contextually relevant responses. All these updates reflect Google’s commitment to improving user experience in Gmail, making email management more efficient and user-friendly.
