Google has rolled out significant AI features to streamline holiday shopping, making the experience less tedious. One major update is the AI Mode in Search, which allows shoppers to describe what they want conversationally. Instead of navigating through filters, users can ask for specific items like "cozy sweaters for happy hour," and receive organized responses that include images, prices, reviews, and inventory information. The AI pulls data from the Shopping Graph, which contains over 50 billion product listings, ensuring users get current information.
The Gemini app now incorporates shopping capabilities, enabling users to brainstorm and browse simultaneously. This feature provides shoppable listings and comparison tables directly within the chat, helping users find gifts or stick to budgets. Users simply need to ask a shopping-related question to activate the feature.
Another notable advancement is the ability to have Google call local stores to check product availability. By searching for items βnear me,β shoppers can choose the βLet Google Callβ option, which prompts them to ask tailored questions about the product. This saves time and eliminates the hassle of calling multiple stores. This feature is initially rolling out for categories such as toys and electronics in the U.S.
Finally, Google introduced an agentic checkout feature that allows users to track prices for specific items. When a tracked item drops within the user's budget, Google can facilitate the purchase using Google Pay, always with prior confirmation from the shopper. This feature is now available in AI Mode for eligible merchants like Wayfair and Chewy, enhancing the overall shopping experience during the holiday season.
