Mastercard has launched Agent Pay in the UAE, marking its first transaction outside the U.S. This service allows users to interact with an AI agent to search, discover, and make purchases, including booking tickets at VOX Cinemas. The introduction of Agent Pay is part of a pilot project in collaboration with Majid Al Futtaim, a prominent player in retail and leisure in the region, and fintech Dataiera.
The launch event featured key figures such as His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, the UAE's Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, and Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach. Al Olama highlighted the UAE's commitment to becoming a global leader in advanced technologies and digital initiatives. Ahmed Galal Ismail, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim, emphasized the transformative potential of AI in commerce, focusing on building trust and transparency in digital transactions.
Mastercard is also supporting the UAE's digital transformation goals, having established its Center for Advanced AI and Cyber Technology in Dubai in 2023. This collaboration underscores the UAE's ambition to be at the forefront of AI innovation and secure commerce.
