Sequoia Capital has announced a leadership transition, promoting Alfred Lin and Pat Grady to take over from Roelof Botha. Botha, who has been a steward at Sequoia since 2017 and led the firm solo since 2022, will continue to play a role by remaining with the firm and on the boards of portfolio companies. Sequoia, one of the oldest and most successful venture capital firms in Silicon Valley, is known for its strong stewardship tradition, established by founder Don Valentine.
Lin has been instrumental in Sequoia’s early-stage investments since 2017, backing notable companies like Airbnb and DoorDash. Grady has co-led the growth-stage investments since 2015, with a portfolio that includes HubSpot and Zoom. Together, they have collaborated on Sequoia's investment in OpenAI. Botha leaves behind a significant legacy, having created Sequoia’s scout program and overseeing the distribution of $52 billion since his stewardship began. His leadership also included restructuring the firm’s funds and separating its China and India operations.
