Anthropic has rolled out new features for its Claude platform aimed at improving users' understanding of their health information. Under the Claude for Healthcare initiative, U.S. subscribers of the Claude Pro and Max plans can connect their lab results and health records through services like HealthEx and Function. Integrations with Apple Health and Android Health Connect will launch shortly on their respective apps. Claude can summarize medical histories, explain test results in simple terms, identify patterns in health metrics, and help users prepare questions for medical appointments.
This announcement follows OpenAI's introduction of ChatGPT Health, which offers a similar service for managing medical records and wellness apps. Both companies stress the privacy of these integrations, allowing users to control what information they share with Claude and to modify access at any time. Importantly, Anthropic and OpenAI clarify that health data wonβt be used for training their models.
Despite these advancements, there's ongoing concern about the accuracy of AI-generated health guidance. Google recently had to retract some of its AI summaries for providing misleading information. Both Anthropic and OpenAI acknowledge that their AI tools can make errors and should not replace professional medical advice. Anthropic specifies that outputs related to healthcare decisions must be reviewed by qualified professionals before any final decisions are made. Claude is designed to include disclaimers about its limitations and encourages users to consult healthcare professionals for personalized advice.
