Slack CEO Denise Dresser is leaving her position to become OpenAI's chief revenue officer. This transition was confirmed by Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff in a staff message. Dresser will oversee OpenAI's enterprise unit, which has seen significant growth this year, and will report directly to COO Brad Lightcap. She begins her new role next week.
Dresser has been with Salesforce for 14 years, stepping into the CEO role at Slack in 2023 after Lidiane Jones left for Bumble. Her leadership at Slack included the introduction of major AI features like AI-generated meeting summaries and Salesforce AI integrations. Following her departure, Rob Seaman, the current chief product officer at Slack, will take over as interim CEO. Slack, founded in 2009, became a major player in workplace collaboration tools before being acquired by Salesforce for nearly $28 billion in 2021.
Dresser's move to OpenAI comes at a time when the company is focused on making AI tools accessible to a broad range of industries. OpenAI's efforts to integrate AI into the workplace are seen as a significant step forward, and Dresser's prior experience in leading similar initiatives is expected to benefit this mission.
