Elon Musk's xAI is suing Apple and OpenAI, claiming they conspired to dominate the AI market by integrating ChatGPT with Siri while sidelining competing products like xAI's Grok. Elon Musk's xAI startup has successfully challenged Apple and OpenAI's attempt to dismiss a lawsuit over Siri's integration with ChatGPT. Filed in August 2025, the suit accuses the two companies of colluding to monopolize the AI market. Musk's grievance stems from his apps, X and Grok, not being featured prominently in the App Store, which he claims is part of a broader strategy to stifle competition.
The lawsuit argues that Apple felt threatened by advancements in AI and formed a partnership with OpenAI to protect its smartphone dominance. xAI contends that users are left with no option but to use ChatGPT within Siri, limiting their access to potentially superior products like Grok. Although users can download other chatbot apps, xAI claims they lack the same integration and functionality that ChatGPT offers through Siri. Furthermore, the lawsuit points to Apple deprioritizing competing generative AI apps, preventing Grok from accessing valuable data from iPhone users.
In response, Apple and OpenAI maintain that thereβs no exclusivity deal barring the integration of other chatbots into Siri, arguing that the case is fundamentally flawed. xAI is seeking to halt what it describes as an anticompetitive scheme and aims to recover billions in damages. This legal battle highlights ongoing tensions in the tech industry over AI integration and market control.
