With no coding background but access to AI tools and a love for retro gaming, they used the no-code platform Lovable.dev to build the game. After three months of development, the game invites players to tap on falling foods, managing a blood sugar meter that responds to their choices, reinforcing the educational aspect through gameplay rather than lectures. The gameplay is structured around quick, one-minute rounds where players aim to maintain their blood sugar levels by selecting healthy foods for points while avoiding junk food that negatively impacts their score. The game uses power-ups like Exercise and Sugar Rush to add an element of strategy. The creator aimed for a fun experience that also provided a meaningful look at how food choices affect diabetes management, ensuring that both score and blood sugar control were important for success. As the development progressed, the creator shifted the game away from a basic Fruit Ninja clone to a more original design that emphasized direct interaction with falling foods. The aesthetics were a major focus, leading the designer to learn pixel art to create a cohesive visual style. They utilized Aseprite for asset creation and incorporated retro fonts to enhance the nostalgic feel. Sound design was equally important, with careful selection of 8-bit music and sound effects to create a tactile gaming experience. AI played a role in solving technical challenges related to audio performance across different mobile browsers, allowing the designer to focus on the creative aspects of sound integration.
