AWS has launched a new tool called AWS Capabilities by Region, available in the Builder Center. This tool allows users to discover and compare AWS services, features, APIs, and CloudFormation resources across different AWS Regions. With an interactive interface, users can see which services are available in which regions, compare them side-by-side, and access future roadmap information. This aims to streamline decision-making for global deployments and reduce project delays caused by unavailable services.
Alongside this, AWS has updated the AWS Knowledge Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server to provide regional capability information in a format compatible with large language models (LLMs). This enhancement allows MCP clients and agentic frameworks to connect to the server for real-time insights into service availability and alternative solutions if specific features are not accessible.
Both the AWS Capabilities by Region tool and the Knowledge MCP server can be accessed at no cost, without needing an AWS account, although there are usage limits in place. Users can follow a getting started guide to set up their access.
