Google hosted the ESCAL8 conference in New Mexico earlier this month, attracting nearly 200 attendees, including bug hunters, capture the flag (CTF) players, and students. The highlight was the Hackceler8 CTF event, where eight teams competed after qualifying from a pool of over 250 registered teams. Google awarded a total of $458,000 in prizes to participants as they tackled security-focused challenges designed to test their skills. Alongside the competition, Google organized two days of introductory cybersecurity workshops for over 60 local university students. These workshops covered various topics, such as offensive security, web security, and cryptography, aimed at encouraging students from diverse backgrounds to consider careers in cybersecurity. The event reflects Google’s commitment to fostering talent in the cybersecurity field while also addressing the industry's ongoing challenges.
