Brsk, a British telecommunications company, is dealing with a significant data breach affecting over 230,000 customer records. Cybercriminals posted on a forum, claiming to have stolen the data and inviting bids for access through Telegram. The leaked information reportedly includes names, email addresses, home addresses, installation details, phone numbers, and indicators of whether a customer is considered "vulnerable." Brsk has confirmed that a breach occurred but did not respond to inquiries about the forum post.
In a statement, Brsk reassured customers that no financial data, passwords, or account credentials were compromised. They are offering affected customers 12 months of free monitoring services through Experian as a precautionary measure. The company is actively investigating the breach with the help of security experts and has notified the relevant authorities, including the Information Commissioner's Office and local police. They emphasized that the breach did not impact their core network or broadband services, although they did not address claims regarding the vulnerabilities of specific customers.
Founded in 2020 and merged with Netomnia in 2024, Brsk is now one of the UK's largest alternative networks, providing full-fiber services to around 1.5 million premises. This incident adds to a troubling trend for UK telcos, joining others like Colt and ICUK, which faced their own cybersecurity challenges this year.
