PayPal has acquired Cymbio, an Israeli company that specializes in multi-channel orchestration for e-commerce, enhancing its capabilities in agentic commerce. According to PayPal’s executive vice president, Michelle Gill, this acquisition will speed up the deployment of new tools for their merchants. The deal is set to finalize in the first half of the year, but PayPal has not disclosed the acquisition cost.
The move aligns with PayPal's strategy to expand into AI-driven commerce, where consumers can use automated bots for shopping and payment processes. Over the past year, PayPal has been actively developing this area, partnering with Cymbio in October to roll out AI-powered shopping services for merchants. This partnership aims to integrate merchants’ product lines into AI platforms, making it easier for consumers to shop.
Cymbio, established in 2015, also supports PayPal's Store Sync service, facilitating order management for merchants. PayPal has previously teamed up with Mastercard to enhance these services by linking its digital wallet with Mastercard's cards. The company has already implemented some agentic commerce features on AI platforms like Microsoft Copilot and plans to expand to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini app soon.
