Canva has rolled out new digital marketing and video-editing tools centered around a design-focused AI model, which it labels a “Creative Operating System.” This term doesn’t refer to an operating system in the conventional sense, but rather a suite of task-specific tools and an integrated platform for marketing teams. Co-founder Cameron Adams explained that this approach enhances the creative process and workflow, moving beyond a mere application layer.
The platform includes a revamped video editor that simplifies the editing process for users without advanced skills. New features like a template library and a streamlined timeline for video editing enhance usability. Canva has also introduced a feedback collection tool akin to Google Forms, allowing users to integrate data directly into Canva Sheets. Furthermore, the new Canva Grow marketing platform enables marketers to create and manage ad campaigns, using AI that adapts based on performance data. An Email Design tool facilitates the creation of branded email campaigns without the need for coding or external platforms like Mailchimp.
All these features are driven by a new in-house AI model trained to grasp design complexities. Most of the enhanced AI capabilities are available only to premium subscribers. Canva's evolution from a basic graphic design tool to a comprehensive platform reflects its shift toward competing with established workplace apps from Google and Microsoft. However, Adams indicated that there are no plans to allow users to pick and choose specific features within the subscription model, despite some user dissatisfaction regarding price increases tied to AI enhancements.
