Meta has launched AI-powered editing tools for Instagram Stories, allowing users to modify photos and videos using text prompts. This update improves on previous editing capabilities that were only accessible through the Meta AI chatbot. Users can now directly interact with the editing features by selecting options like “add,” “remove,” or “change” in the “Restyle” menu. For example, you can change your hair color or add a sunset background simply by describing what you want in the prompt bar.
The new tools include preset effects for altering outfits or changing the style of images. Users can add elements like sunglasses or a biker jacket and apply artistic effects such as a watercolor filter. Video edits are also possible, with options to simulate falling snow or flames. However, using these features means accepting Meta’s AI Terms of Service, which allow the company to analyze the media and facial features uploaded by users.
In a bid to stay competitive, Meta is rolling out various AI updates. Recently, it tested a “Write with Meta AI” prompt to help users generate clever comments for their posts. The company also introduced a new AI-generated video feed called “Vibes” in the Meta AI app, which saw a significant jump in daily active users, rising from 775,000 to 2.7 million in just a month. To address parental concerns, Meta is implementing new controls that let parents monitor their teenagers' interactions with AI characters and the topics discussed with the Meta AI chatbot.
