Conduent has revealed that a data breach in January 2025 may have impacted around 10 million individuals. The breach, linked to the SafePay ransomware group, lasted nearly three months, from October 21, 2024, until its discovery on January 13, 2025. The compromised data includes sensitive health information and Social Security numbers. Conduent, which works with over 600 government entities and many Fortune 100 companies, filed breach notifications with multiple state attorney general offices.
The stolen data varies by state. In Texas alone, more than 400,000 individuals had their Social Security numbers, medical information, and health insurance details exposed. Other states affected include Washington (76,000), South Carolina (48,000), and New Hampshire (10,000). Conduent stated that they quickly restored their systems and notified law enforcement upon the discovery of the breach. They claim their technology environment is now secure, as confirmed by third-party security experts. SafePay, responsible for this attack, reportedly stole 8.5 terabytes of data and has previously targeted other notable organizations.
