The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has officially been renamed to include Donald Trump’s name, prompting a mix of satire and disbelief. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the decision on December 18, 2025, celebrating the partnership of the two presidents. A work crew quickly altered the building's sign to reflect this change. The move follows Trump’s dismissal of the previous board and his appointment as chairman, signaling a shift towards personal branding over the center’s original cultural mission.
Toby Morton, a former South Park writer, anticipated this change back in August and registered the domain names trumpkennedycenter.org and trumpkennedycenter.com. He has since created a parody website that mocks the official logo, transforming the architectural columns into jail bars, symbolizing Trump's controversies. The parody tagline includes redacted text referencing a “13-year-old girl,” aimed at satirizing Trump’s handling of sensitive issues. Morton argues that the Kennedy Center, intended as a lasting tribute to culture, is now being used for ego-driven purposes, making satire an unavoidable response to this shift.
