Apple will not launch a standard iPhone 18 model in 2026, breaking its usual annual release cycle. Reports indicate that the iPhone 18 is now scheduled for spring 2027, meaning the iPhone 17 will remain the latest standard model for over 18 months. This marks the first time Apple has skipped an entire year without introducing a new non-Pro iPhone. The company plans to change its release strategy by splitting iPhone launches across two windows. The iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and a foldable version will debut in the fall of 2026, while the standard iPhone 18 will follow in spring 2027, accompanied by the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2. This staggered approach aims to reduce internal competition among models and provide a longer sales period for each version. Apple's growing lineup, which will include at least eight models by the end of 2026, necessitates this shift. Analysts note that spacing out launches could alleviate manufacturing bottlenecks and improve component management. By distributing iPhone releases throughout the year, Apple might also achieve smoother revenue flow across its fiscal quarters, moving away from the concentrated sales spikes typical of previous September launches.
